Obesity Among Children and Destructions of Fast Food!

(Muhammad Javaid, Lahore)

Obese children do not remain active in childhood which is an important requirement of that age. In the result of that they become sluggish and leisure loving. They suffer from a lack of activity. And they become victims of a sense of inferiority and depravity. It has been observed that an obese child is many times more attention seeking than a child having an average build and weight. His (please use his and her interchangeably according to the context) health remains a perpetual problem for his kids. The mental and physical aloofness that ensues from this state of illness fosters a process of intricacies in the lives of children. Its effects are far fetching and wide.

Obese children normally refrain from befriending normal children. Like this as opposed to their natural desires they refrain from achieving a special position among their age fellows. All of these factors gather and engulf the child into an infinite loop of problems. Like this they increase the sped of the problems of obesity.

Obesity deteriorates the functional aspects of the body too. In an older age obesity is a cause of the growth of fatty cells. Whereas among the children it is considered as a result of increase in such fatty cells. The forerunner of the fatty cells initially accumulates fat in it. After becoming strong it converts itself into an adult fat tissue. This process is more pronounced in the initial parts of the life. When the process of obesity is continued among the children the increase in the number of fatty cells becomes fast. Under normal circumstances the process of increase in fatty cells naturally occurs only in adulthood. And this rapidity in the process is more apparent among girls as compared to boys. This can be stopped with appropriate exercise and dietary care. But when the process of obesity begins in the children, it becomes a difficult job to deal with it. That is why an unusually fat child becomes a perpetual problem for himself and his parents.

This is a matter of happiness and hope that the situation can be controlled in the early age with the help of proper care. For example such children should be encouraged to remain active from the beginning despite their wishes and their diets should be confined to those diets which are composed of less calories despite giving a sense of a full stomach. At the same time the child should be groomed psychologically and his mental tendencies should be watched. This thing should be kept in mind that this procedure of treatment requires dedication and attention. If continuity os broken then in a small period all of the handwork goes in vein. According to a careful analysis it has been seen that although a disciplined treatment produces better results, but due to unknown reasons very small children have shown lesser hopeful results for this. The children ho were under study and who were divided into groups of 12 to 15, 10-12 and 6-9 years of age, from among these the results of the first were better as compared to the second and the results of the second were better as compared to the third group.

In this regard an interesting reality has come forward that the children who were born in the sixth decade of the 20th century in Britain had heavier weights on average. Due to this in the dietary habits of the children there was an increase in unhealthy trends. Among these were the higher use of powdered milk and to start solid diets in a small age were the foremost reasons. The health professionals  felt this change and informed the parents about the gravity of the results. The result of this was that the average weight of the children was less who were born after that. This shows that along with individual care of the patient children, collective strategies are also indispensable. Parents should keep on reducing the weight of their children with appropriate pauses, so that they can understand the proper balance between the height and weight and that appropriate strategies could be adopted accordingly.

In Pakistan also since the past few decades the illness of obesity is increasing at a fast rate. And specially the children are becoming its victims very fast. According to the experts the main reason for this is lack of care in diet. If mothers breast feed their children, and children start eating solid diets and if they are kept away from fast foods as much as possible, the children could be saved from the effects of fast food. And the children could be saved from the illness of obesity.

Always maintain a timetable of the diet of children. And only give them diet in those times. Give them plenty of fruits and vegetables. Peruade the children to perform mild exercise everyday. Pregnant women should also use their diet according to the advice of the doctor. Excessive diet can indulge them into a dangerous illness such as obesity.
